I have the Celmo X-Machine, unfortunatly, i don't have the sharc one...
So, i can talk about X-Machine... It is very efficient, low on DSP (with a DSP saving feature when used in mono), and complete... My old Shure SM58 sound a complete different new mic if i want to, or my guitar can have a subtle compression and limiter just before recording stage...
Pretty good... I see it as a channel strip that can take it all... There is parametric EQ, shelving EQ, limiter, compressor, SubBass Booster(this is cool, i can make my mic sound like a radio guy with the big voice
) , deesser.
You can also make different routing for filter section, and with it's two kind of input (line input and instrument input), the later give you enormous gain if needed...
It come with a bunch of different presets, and also Ken has made a small collection of some 'extreme' one.
Personnaly, the mic is always going thru it, it add to much for not using it.
Ho, also, since it is so cheap (80$) you can have both if you're not sure!

you have an external preamp, i suppose.. which one do you use? (just for asking...)

I don't own it, but I have tryed the demo and it's great! As practicaly everything from Celmo. The sound is fantastic if you want vintage sound.

marcus, by the way, have you tried my preset for voices? Do they work for ya? (just curious)

Yes they work, i had a couple of adjustments to do for my taste, but they here ok. Like usual, all preset are just starting point.
Anyway, they where pretty helpfull at first, not that easy to understand all those concepts stuffed into one device.
I think you did them with a Shure beta smething hein? That's probably why they where so close to my mic

hey ! I use your preset on acoustic drum ( OH ) and they are a quite exellent start. xmachine give really good result on electric bass with the sub at max indeed !
I find the eq a little bit too "ringing" but perfect to give color to the sound as a vintage preamp. very nice device
