well... my old devices aren't really free. they are freely available, but should be paid-for if used on a regular basis.

i will not be releasing any of my new SFP/XTC devices as strictly shareware... ever.

when i decided to release the older devices as shareware, I was in a difficult place, you must understand. sales had slowed right down and SCOPE DP/ Pulsar (now SFP) had just been completely changed. i decided that while i would relearn SCOPE (and all of its new goodies) i might as well benefit from some of the promotion that might be gained by getting my older units to a much wider user-base (and hopefully stimulate a little income). it seemed to me a better option than just having my devices sit here with me. i knew that some (the couple) relatively recent purchasers would be annoyed, but it had also occured to me that no user had bought all of my devices (or more than four, for that matter... and some devices were even completed as shareware only, so nobody had them yet) and so even people that had purchased units were gaining new devices in the process... and i get not so much as a thank you. btw, it depresses me how many people have dowloaded my stuff (I can tell, of course) and how little have offered me anything for them. forgive my complaining here.

it is only because of people like you (relatively few) that have actually purchased my devices at full price, that I am still able to spend time designing new products. you have invested in my company and for that I thank you. please don't punish me for trying to expand people's awareness of my stuff. this is a very hard business to keep afloat in.

hey, the music if free now... why not the instruments that make the music, right? (sarcasm)

I wasn't annoyed at all, but on one hand happy the rest was so cheap now, on the other hand concerned, because the price didn't match the quality anymore.

I just received the announced update of the Europa - tnx a lot Stephen and keep on developing such nice devices.
Synths with a special character where tweaking is fun
One question left: is the name of the synth a reference to the Jupiter moon in Kubrik's Odyssee ?

I wasn't annoyed at all, but on one hand happy the rest was so cheap now, on the other hand concerned, because the price didn't match the quality anymore.

"europa" is, in fact, one of the moons of Jupiter... (a bit cheesy, I know, but somewhat appropriate) besides, synth names have a long history of having cheesy names.

can you imagine my face when a couple of years ago they came up with that survey results, which made moon Europa the hottest candidate for exraterrestial life

Stephen - I have actually downloaded every one of those "freeware" synths and haven't paid you a cent at this stage which is very norti of me.

However, I actually settled on only one that I thought I would use with any regularity which is the Avalon Euro which I was quite impressed with. The others weren't bad at all, just not for me.

As for Europa...well I've downloaded the demo but stupidly haven't tried it yet. I will give it a go and see how good it is. After Solaris I'm not sure if I'm really in the market for another synth, but a good synth is a good synth is a good synth...

I will contact you regarding the appropriate payment for Avalon Euro.
