Having a noisy computer sux, and I got real interested in the Lian Li foam re-enforced aluminum cases. But I wanted to rackmount it.

Unfortunately, it's only offered in Mid-Tower variants.

However, they told me that if there's an order of 100 cases, they'll custom make a silent Rackmount case. Here's the correspondance:

Anyone interested in getting a 100 custom aluminum silent 4U rackmount cases together? I'd love to pool together as many case purchases as we can. Maybe there are some Infinite Vortex-alike system builders out there who want to go in on 100+? Lemme know. This seems like a sweet deal for us home-recording nerds.

$150-180 for a 100 qty doesn't read as a good offer at first sight, but I'm gonna ask my PC supplier next occasion.
Dunno if this applies to the US but what about those electrical compliance tests / labels ?

The main problem with this case is that even if you rackmount it, it will be too deep to put in a mobile type rack system (SKB style) - which you may not need, but many people may be looking at rackmount for mobility.

I have a 4U heavy-duty industrial rackmount case that is only a little over 17" deep that can be made to work in really nicely in a mobile rack (with a few spacers up front), which is nice if you plan to take your computer to a gig with you. I am not sure how it compares in supressing noise to the case you mentioned, but you can get a noise damping system right at CompUSA that does a good job at reducing noise overall. The case itself has a lockable front door with a plexi window that keeps much of the
internal noise from coming through to the front. I have also found that with a mobile rack case, you can place the front lid on the case when needed and everything becomes pretty much silenced.

Because the case is made for idustrial rackmounting, it is very heavy duty and has a clamp for the PCI cards to make sure they do not come loose. It also has a shock-mount system for a hard drive, CD-ROM, etc.
This makes it a great case for a mobile system.

And do you have some more info, is there a aluminium variant available (less wheight).
