A fantastic little device. The sound is so big and rich and tweakable
Excellent stuff.
And with 64 presets ! (Favourites are 12, 32 , 33, 43 + )
It's so good what I'd really like is to be able to play it pitched across the keyboard - it can double with fantastic tom sounds ...
Thanks RedMuze

FANTASTIC! *Hurls Techstar unit into trashcan* One down two to go!
Please, oh please oh please: can you do one for snares? Soon I will be rid of these analog noise makers...
I WANT FLEXOR!
As an interesting request (only because it's on the Techstar206) perhaps in a future revision, would it be possible to include an inverted thingee on the pitch? I don't know what to call it, but on the techstar, if you rotate the knob clockwise from 1200 position, you control the speed of the pitch tone, from high to low (the farther you turn, the longer the tones sound), but if you turn it Counterclockwise from 1200 position, it goes backward, from low tone to high tone, like a soundeffect for a superball or a bass slidewhistle. Does this make sense? Eitherway, this one is out of my "3rd Party" folder and into "Synths" *it's a great thing, trust me*

Oddly enough i was getting towards the end of mixing and electro-style track and hadn't quite got the right kick yet. Here it is! However i just wish to tell you about some problems i'm experiencing, these may be related to it running on Mac:
1. When i hit stop on my sequencer i get clicks or a notes happening after everything else has stopped. Sometimes just one click, sometimes a series.
2. When i load kickME i momentarily see the preset window pop up the disappear. To me this usually iimplies there is a slight problem finding or reading the presets. This happens to me sometimes on Mod2 and ModIII, but if i then resave the Mod patch, the next time i load it the preset window doesn't pop up. Of course i can't resave kickME so this happens each time i load. May be a path error.
My system:
Mac G4, 500MHz SP, 768MB RAM, OS9.2.2
Pulsar2Plus & SCOPE SRB SFP3.1c
Cubase VST/32 v5.1r1
OMS2.3.8
Very good sound though, just thought you'd like the 'heads-up',
Mr Arkadin

KickMe is monophic (at least i think thats your problem) the amplitude's envelope release should be set to be short as possible (without clicking)so that when a new kick will come, they will not overlap.
1. When i hit stop on my sequencer i get clicks or a notes happening after everything else has stopped. Sometimes just one click, sometimes a series.
if a kick comes before the last one is finnished, the transision between 1 kick to another will happen in only 1 sample. that wil generatre the click.
did you put the presets file under c:sfppresets ?2. When i load kickME i momentarily see the preset window pop up the disappear. I had almost the EXACT same setup as you. Have you considered upgrading, or are you waiting for the G5.
If you are considering, I have put the Powerlogix Dual G4 upgrade in my G4 500 and brought it up to a dual 1ghz.
Upgraded the RAM to 1.5 G
It's a great system....and I highly recommend the Powerlogix cards if you are thinking about it.
Unfortunately, I also switched to OSX, so I put the CW cards (Pulsar II Plus, SRB) into a PC and lighpipe them into the Mac running Logic OSX.
But the cards worked fine under OS9.
Sorry for the OT, just thought it kind of cool to see someone with the exact same setup I had

Cheers
PS. KickMe still ROCKS!

Kamurah,
Yeah been looking into to PowerLogix upgrades, very good value it seems, though to be honest i was thinking of staying single processor (maybe upgrade to 800MHz or so) as i've only heard grief from people with dual processors. Maybe when SFP becomes OSX dual processors will be viable.
Red_Muze,
The problem is KickME actually plays clicks/tones (depending on whether the sound has a click or tone in the sound) after i've stopped, sometimes for a few beats, sometimes even when i rewind then stop. i don't necessarliy have to be playing a sequence. But it doesn't seem to play the whole sound, just the attack part. i'm very confused.
As to the presets, they're in the right folder, but i'm wondering if i should rename then from 'Adern KickMe.pre' to just KickMe.pre' (or would that be worse?)
i'm just hoping that the infamous ModIII presets problem isn't appearing in your devices.

wow this sounds strange!
did you try playing with your midi keyboard?
it sounds as if your sequencer is just playing some more midi notes.
also check with midi monitor to see if this comes from midi..
by the way
i myself always record the kick after im happy with it
and sequence in audio... after all midi is not the best format in the world for timing...

Hmm, things seem to be getting stranger. i hooked up the SFP MIDI Monitor and if i'm reading it correctly every time i forward or rewind then stop it seems to be sending a note on, then a note off. If this is the case this may be what's triggering KickMe. i now think it is triggering the whole sound, not just the transient (i think it was just that i had a very clicky sound selected at the time).
How come this has never affected me before though? And how do i cure it? Crumbs. Might end up sampling the kicks.
i see before me a can of worms...

well, in kick me the solution is very simple,
just use a diferent note! (im assuming cubase doesnt generate all notes on but just one)
BUT, it would be wizer to just dig into cubase (im a logic user myself) and see why its generating midi notes when you rewinf/forward or stop. it maybe that you have a midi metronome on, it may be that you have a function to comunicate with external transports. just dig in the options and find what it is, becouse its not only affecting kickmy aqnd thats for sure. i guess it would be much more noticable on a kick than a pad with slow attack..
kick me is not responsible in generating midi signals just receiving them
if u have more questions dont hesitate to ask

i've tried every permutation of preferences, no difference. i've tried other devices in the same MIDI path and they don't play notes when i hit stop. It's almost like it's in Omni mode, in that say KickMe is playing a pattern on MIDI Ch1 and i mute it, it doesn't play the pattern (which is correct), but when you hit stop you still get a kick sound. Even if the sequencer was sending a note, KickMe shouldn't be able to receive it as its MIDI channel is muted.
However, when it's actually in Omni mode it actually behaves in weirder. You get all sorts of sounds coming out when you hit stop, even with no sequences recorded (i've tried all this on a blank song, no patterns).
Help...

Ok!
fixed!
you can go to
http://www.adern.com
to d/l KickMe V1.1
with some new presets even
Enjoy!
p.s.
you might want to disable Cubase from sending note off messages anyway... other synths may have a problem with it. and you dont need this unnesecary midi data flowing in your port

Cool, that seems to have done the trick. The presets still do their funny loading trick, but i think this is a CW problem as ModIII often does it too, so i doubt it's anything you can fix (doesn't seem to affect the presets anyway).
Cheers,
Mr Arkadin
PS. i assume you do sleep sometimes Red?
PPS. i had switched off Real Note Offs in Cubase, so that wasn't an issue, what i was seeing were 'fake' Note Offs in the MIDI Monitor, so that's all fine and dandy.

this *is* strange you put the files in your presets directory??On 2003-06-29 07:37, Mr Arkadin wrote:

there is not such thing as "fake" note offs, if midi monitor sees it, its there, and its cubase sending those at0mic might know more about why itd oing it, since he managed to disable his...PPS. i had switched off Real Note Offs in Cubase, so that wasn't an issue, what i was seeing were 'fake' Note Offs in the MIDI Monitor, so that's all fine and dandy.

Well the presets are definitely in the right folder SFP>Presets, but maybe it's because you're using Modular technology, but unlike ModIII it doesn't seem to corrupt the presets, it's just a little bit worrying to see the preset window pop up as if can't find them (this is very quick pop up maybe half a second). i think the problem is related to this http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... forum=9&24
Well, as to Cubase you only have the option to switch on or off what they call 'Real' Note Off, which sends the Note Off velocity value if selected (which as you say can clog things up). When switched off it seems to send a Note Off with no value, but is that still clogging up my MIDI i wonder, is what i really want Cubase to do is send a Vol=0 or something?
Probably should start this Cubase topic in a different forum.
Anyway everything else seems OK.
