Good luck!
I don't undertstand, Bingo. All these BIOS tweaks are exactly the opposite of the recommendations that are all over the forums here.
Can you explain why I should do this?
Thanks
(AGP Aperture does not appear in the P4P800's BIOS, btw)

good for you, bad for problem-sloving

i recommand to start the installation without any bios "tweaks" too.
my system runs "out of the box" without any changes.
we had problems with all deluxe boards during our tests.
hope, thats not unfixable in your case.
i strictly recommand the asus p4p800 se (NO DELUXE)
one thing again:
doas your system freezes too if there is nothing connected to the physical midi port?
best,
andre

I only connect my keyboard to the CW MIDI in.
I'll see what I can do without the keyboard connected.
Now, if no freezes occur what do I do? I will still need my keyboard controller.

Hi Paul. I'll try to help a fellow Canadian with the advice to reinstall SCOPE over the top of the original installation. It sure helped me to stop my computer from freezing. The only thing I did different with the install was to accept to install the XTC VST plugs. Because I never use XTC I never installed the VST plugins the first time. This time I accepted to install them. I don't know if this had anything to do with it, or perhaps the reinstallation altered some registry settings, but until now I don't have any freezing.
I have the ASUS PC800-E Deluxe board. Many other musicians and studios use the same board without problems, so I don't see any reason to switch to some other ASUS PC800 variation board with less extras.
In this forum everybody with computer freezing problems also has a SCOPE audio system. If SCOPE is temporarily disabled is there still freezing? If not, the problem is with the SCOPE installation. Most of us had the same SCOPE card working fine in another computer. Logic tells me that the freezing problem has to do with a faulty installation of SCOPE.
Let me know how the next chapter goes.

Captain's log 16:00 hours, saturday...
Since 14:30 I have been playing the same tune in a loop in Logic gradually adding more and more CPU intensive effects. No crashes yet.
Keeping the more visual effects on top to see how the graphics will react...
Go figure
(hehe. now I find myself longing for a freeze)

17:00
Stopped Logic, Closed Logic, Reopened Logic and reloaded the now effect heavy project. No freezes occured.
Closed Logic.
Opened a video file and exactly 2 minutes into the movie the computer froze.(Man I wish I could sample that stuttering gunshot sound

)
Graphic card problem, you think?
Maybe the card gets too hot? (Matrox G550)
Oh yeah, I did not have MIDI connected to my card all that time

Project sent
Everything was going on in Logic, Synths, effects, everything. Logic is my work horse and I use SFP devices when I need them, which isn't always.

A .avi file was what I was watching.
I have of course rebooted right after the last freeze and opened all kinds of different Logic songs without a freeze so far.

hi paul,
i´m sorry!
60 min video without a freeze even with your project...
i have a matrox g 550 too!
what scope-hardware / what pci slot?
you should use slot 1 and 5 for scope only.
also, try to add a 2nd wave source/dest module.
two 24bit maybe?
all the best!

I hope this isn't too obvious, but have you disabled bus mastering in the Matrox options?

the only thing that should be active is 32zbuffer..
disable the rest.
but that should´nt lead to freeze-crashas...

Bus mastering disabled since wednesday, Dave. I did not know about that before then.
PCI slots, yeah, gotta try that then.
Plugged my keyboard in and got an almost immediate freeze...
Let me change the cards' place and get back to you.
Thanks a whole bunch, guys. You truely are friends
