Hi guys, its me again with another newb XTC question.

The Vocodizer, XTC or no? If no, any unofficiall solution? (like the one for using Modular patches in XTC)


I fired up my system today in XTC mode, and lo and behold! Everything seemed to work. All my synths were there (even my trusty Zarg Ambient) and all the effects were there. But not the vocodizer. I thought XTC mode officially supported all Creamware stuff except mixers, STS samplers and modular?

I have tried the Vorb in XTC mode with no luck. I could not get the audio input routed. I could get the interface to appear and midi was connected but no more.

I checked this for you and found that I have the Vocodizer as part of my XTC effects
I don't use XTC mode at all but if it is there then it works, right?

check your VST plugin information (SX) and make sure you updated all your creamware ones by checking them and then click update.

Hi Antar,

I did just that (checked and updated) but still cannot load it in any way. Not as a vst instrument nor as an audio plugin.

Edit: I also use SX 2.01.

Nah... maybe making a copy of another .dll from the VstPlugins/XTC folder any renaming it Vocodizer.dll would work better...

But i don't think that's the problem here. I think it a bug in the host or xtc (don't know which one) that a plugins considered as a vsti can't have inputs... Correct me if i'm wrong on this, but that what i guessed

Ah, the trick that was described on how to use modular patches in XTC, isnt it?

Having both audio In- and Outputs, Vocodizer and Vorb should be in the VST effects, and not in VSTi synths list. Don't know how to migrate from one to the other type, maybe using a .dll from a file belonging to the type?

As I said I have tried this but the problem I couldn't solve is how to connect the audio in? It is normally connected to a 'track' and I can't see anyway of connecting it outside SFP. I did try leaving a Vorb connected inside my xtcproject but that didn't work.
I did ask John last year about the Vorb and he said there were no plans for a XTC version.

I think this was posted already before:

How to use the Sidechain of a compressor in XTC-Mode Cubase:
Load a Multi-FX in the insert-slot where you want to use the compressor. Insert the Compressor in a Multi-FX slot it.

Load another Multi-FX to an insert of another track (the desired sidechain track).

Now you can select the Multi-FX Out in the compressor-sidechain-slot of the sidechain track.

You probably have to try this twice because the Multi-Fx Out where the compressor is attached is also displayed.

Great tip. I have just tried it with just one MultiFX. I selected sidechain then rightclicked in the box and got a list of VST outputs.

Wow, this thread sure took an interesting turn. I´ll have to try that.

Allthough I still cant seem to load the vocidizer in any way. (its checked in the list and the plugin info is refreshed)

What is this multi FX unit thingie you´re talking about?

The MultiFX is a effects 'holder' it chains together 8 FXs. You should find it in the 'Others' folder when inserting into your sequencer mixer.

I made a quick test as soon as I got home from work, and I was able to route any audio track in SX into the vocodizer as long as said audio track contained a Multi FX insert. Multi FX out came up in the analysis/synthesis in box.
I only had a short time to check (I work nights, and need some bloody sleep, hehe) but to me it looks like there should be no problem using Vocodizer in XTC mode. Yay!

Hm. . it seems I was a bit premature on my XTC Vocodizer ramblings yesterday. Thats sleep deprivation for ya, hehe

I did indeed see the Multi FX out in the little input selection box in the Vocodizer, but trying to select them results in an error message rambling about incompatible pads. I did however manage do get a proper analysis signal in, and also midi. Insert the vocodizer on an audio track, and that audio track automatically comes in as analysis. Routing midi into the vocodizer is also handled the normal way in SX.
Now I just have to figure out how to get an external synthesis signal into it, allthough its quite operational with the internal one.

How do you insert the Vocodizer into an audiotrack? Have you it showing as a effect? I have tried again unsuccessfully with the Vorb. It appears that the Vocodiser has 'XTC' as an advantage over the Vorb. This is a disadvantage for me, I have been using the Cubase Vocoder instead of the Vorb on occasions recently.... shame....
If you are listening John? Any chance of an update??

Hiya Kenf.

The vocodizer can be used as an insert effect only. You open an audio track, and load it as any other insert.

If you do the "rename dll file trick" to get your vorb into the sequencer, maybe you can try to use it in this way?
